*tsktsk* How dare you…

Remember that great review I got? Ebookling tried to #hustle me into posting my book there on that review: http://amzn.to/rbwkQi #fail They just ruined any chance they ever had of my coming back there, and I will never say anything nice about them. Great job, Colin!

WTF? Srsly?

Ok, you know what? I’m getting a little pissed. Maybe it’s the stress of being unemployed, living with family, fighting a lot, not getting out much, having two messed up cars, waiting for the call that my granddad has died, not being able to sleep through the night… perhaps the stress is making me cranky, but a guy came to a FB writers’ group I am a member of (and granted I have not been very active the past two months, mostly because the stress is making it hard to even get out of bed much less think about writing) and offered to run free ads for that group’s members in his online fiction ezine. I made a great ad (if I do say so myself), and I emailed it to him in June. He emailed me back saying how it was a great ad and look for it in July’s issue. July’s issue released, but my ad wasn’t in it. I thought maybe he had such a large number come in that some were held off for August. I sent him an email asking just that. No reply. August’s issue released, but my ad wasn’t in it. The same guy posted in the group talking about the ads and how it was still going on… I posted right there, figuring since a private email was ignored, a public call-out would not… and I was right. He said he couldn’t find my ad; could I resend it. Which I did. Today, September’s issue released. I figured, no way after all this would my ad again be a no-show, but apparently I’m not good enough to be in eFictionmag.com’s monthly release. For gods’ sakes, if the ad had been for the transgender, original version of my urban fantasy, I could almost understand (although it would be discrimination), but it was totally for the straight version. Wtf is wrong with me and my book that I don’t deserve to have my ad in an ezine? I could really use the boost in sales. I could not get a McDouble right now without checking my bank account and counting the change in the bottom of my car seats.

So, what is it, Douglas Lance? What makes my ad, my book, me not worthy of the space three months in a row?

The "no-show" ad

The price we pay

So I’m broke. In more ways than one, but for the time being, let’s just talk about the monetary broke. I sold about 2/3 of my print book library today for 100$ to Half Price Books. They got a helluva deal, but I was expecting around that, and it really does help.

I’m hoping with this little bit of money (I gave 40$ of my hundred to Dad to help with my younger brothers’ school fees) that I’ll be able to move Son of Sin to CreateSpace and afford the proof copy. I like CreateSpace better than Lulu. The cost of printing is lower, which lowers my retail price, and CreateSpace printed and shipping a helluva lot faster than Lulu and I think the book looks a tough nicer. Although I’m not sure if I like the stark white pages as opposed to the off-white or tan-ish pages.

So hopefully Sons of Sin will be available in a few weeks at 12.99$ on Amazon instead of the weird 14.xx$ that going through Lulu made it.

And you should all rush to your computers and buy it the instant it becomes available. >_>

Proof copy arrived!

My proof copy arrived today from CreateSpace! SOOOO much faster, easier and cheaper than Lulu. As soon as I can afford another proof, I’ll be moving the original print over as well. The left one is from 2008 Lulu. The right one is the revised “straight” version 2011 CreateSpace.

A series worth every penny!

This is a series that I found browsing the free titles on Amazon‘s Kindle store, and it turns out the author is in my writers’ group on Facebook! Paul Kater is a wonderful person, and there has been nothing but praise for his Hilda series.

“A fairy-land witch gets transported to our world and struggles to go home.”

“…I enjoyed Hilda, it was cute and light, a fairytale in today’s world of vampires and zombies. I was rooting for her. I do still wonder if the people she used her magic on were released after a time. I hate to think that poor man is still a frog.

However, there is strong language throughout. I would rate it PG13…”  –Review excert from Arlene Radasky on Smashwords.com.

Looking for a good read? You’ve come to the right place!

Shades of Sin

Chevelle was born a slave, raised to be a replacement for her mother as the favourite in her master’s harem, but she was meant for greater things. After a disastrous chance encounter with a twin she never knew, Chevelle is left unsettled and vulnerable just in time to become pawn to a killer for hire who happens to be the world’s oldest dhampir. This new master spirits Chevelle away to Japan and forces her to learn who and what she is: a dhampir, the bastard daughter of a vampire, with the power to see the future. Join her as she tops the nation’s rock charts and the vampires’ most wanted while learning what it means to write her own destiny.

**Note: This is a revised edition of Sons of Sin. The primary difference is that Chevelle is a woman instead of a transgendered man.

Sample Shades of Sin: epub or (epub)

Cyberpunk and elves? Yes, please!

This is on my To Read list! The Other Side Of Life by Jess C. Scott.

“A thieving duo’s world turns upside down when an Elven rogue uncovers the heinous dealings of a megacorporation. * * * Genre: Urban Fantasy / Cyberpunk / YA with adult crossover appeal * * * Recommended for adults or young adults seeking cyberpunk themes (not hardcore sci-fi), and a love story (not fluffy romance). * * * By author/artist/non-conformist, Jess C Scott”

“… It was refreshing to read something so well thought out and different. You can tell the author made a point to make her work original…” Review by Carrie (Care) on Smashwords.com

Breakfast anyone? Yes, indeed!

This poetry collection, Breakfast Anytime by Christopher M. Thompson, is a journey through everyday extremes.

“A selection of poetry covering a variety of topics which range from heartbreak to humor, love to loss, redemption, remembrance, and rebellion. Purposely presented without definitive grouping of the poems, “Breakfast Anytime” is designed to make the selection a literary and emotional buffet.

The poetry is written in three voices – male, female, and gender neutral, creating poetry that may be enjoyed by either gender and many of the themes involving matters of the heart are ambiguous enough to work with any sexual orientation, making “Breakfast Anytime” a delightful read by anyone.”

This collection is a must for poetry enthusiasts, and it’s very reasonably priced at 99¢! Also, there is a family-friendly version for those who blush easily. ;)
